Merit Network
Founded in 1966, Merit owns and operates America’s longest-running regional research and education network. At Mitosis, I worked with the rest of the creative team to evolve their branding and their website simultaneously, serving as a re-introduction of their ever-growing capabilities and vision.
The result was a refreshed, modern website designed to support Merit’s continual growth.

Concept Exploration
The redesign process began with homepage concept exploration. Our knowledge of Merit Network and their mission, as well as their existing brand, drove and informed our discovery and concepting processes.
I explored various visual directions we could take their online presence, focusing on defining typography, color, and UI/website design.
Final Concept
After a few rounds, we found a design direction that fit Merit both visually and strategically. We finalized the concept mockup, built a library of branding assets, and gathered copy updates from their marketing team.
Image Direction
In order to flesh out their new branding, I selected and edited a unique image for each page that both reflected and supported the new Merit brand.

Page Templates
After having all of the updated branding elements ready, I began designing custom page templates in Figma, building an entire global web style to specifically fit their needs. Below are all of my finalized page templates that were used by developers to create custom page templates in Wordpress.
Persona Imagery
The final touch on the project was adding feature images that represented the driving force behind Merit’s mission; the people. I was focused primarily on diversity and representation, as well as portraying confident students, educators, and reseaerchers. The gradient waves in the background of each image represent the Merit Network connecting everyone and making their work possible.
